2019 Lexus GS 350 F Sport Redesign and Changes
In recent months, rumors have started to circulate hot, and it seems Lexus GS may find itself in the guillotine at the end of the fourth generation and now. Generations that have been around since 2011 and have just been updated in 2015, however, GS has some very insignificant sales, which is probably why rumors seem to lead to ES taking GS’s place as a medium-sized executive box on wheels. And, given that Lexus sells about 10 times more ES than the GS model, the rumor makes sense. However, now we see some spy shots that show that the rumor is wrong. We try to guess that the new model you see here is the new 2019 Lexus GS 350 F Sport, but it can also be the next ES gene because it now also has a generation shift. So, we have to learn more about what’s lurking under camo in the near future. But, until then, we’ll assume this is the next GS gene, so let’s look better and talk more about it.
2019 Lexus GS 350 Exterior and Interior
Is that next-gen Lexus GS or ES? We do not know for sure, but one thing is certain: Whatever the model, there will be some drastic changes based on these spy shots.
For starters, it looks like the classic Lexus spindle grille can be a thing of the past, because this model seems to use a completely different nose layout. Now, let’s be clear – this is a test mule, and there are some padding under the camo, so take what is said from this point with a grain of salt … or two. But, it seems Lexus is carrying grille dual grille grille with a sporty grille smaller and upper and smaller air dams underneath. This is clearly divided in the middle because there is a plate attached to the fascia. Based on the sign we can see inside camo, it almost looks as though the game name here will be the curve. There is a sturdy bend at the bottom of the fascia that pops up along the side of the grille and looks like they can switch to the top of the currently closed corner vents. Needless to say, this can be a very fresh look.
Next, notice how the headlights are hidden a little bit? If you look closely enough, you can see the outline, even under the camo, and this is clearly wrapped with fenders, which means they will have an integrated side marker. Another special thing to note here is that the hood is very sleek and smooth, while the sharpest front end is defined in unique viewing angles and should be translated to many characters when the camo is released. By the way, it’s all surprising, considering that Lexus compares this benchmark with the Mercedes E-Class, so it’s clear who they’re looking for with this baby.
Switching to a side profile, there is not much to talk about. It looks as if this car will have a too smooth design for a side that includes a bit of masculinity on the front wheels and a very light body line about three inches below the belt line. This body line tends to stick to the front fender but must wrap the deck cover on the back. The door looks really smooth, but there is a bit of character to the side of the skirt if you look closely enough. Mirrors on short sleeves and short sleeve features while the roofline itself is actually a bit flat. As if, the sedan still has a somewhat sporty look behind it to a very wide C-pillar. Finally, the rear lights are wrapped and protruding from the rear just a little while the doorknob is very thin and quite hard to see with all the gaps that spin on the road. Not bad.

This could be the beginning of a whole new design for the Lexus sedan, which is quite refreshing to be seen as some people just do not like the big, large spindle grille. With that said, this is a Lexus and it’s all about luxury, so expect to see a healthy size of wood and leather in it, as you can see in Lexus GS 2016 above. The infotainment screen on the model is big enough, so do not expect to grow a lot and will likely get the most software updates. Of course, the big screen is starting to become a trend now, so Lexus can test all Tesla on this baby and throw the screen that is too big to it.
Expect to see the revised center pile with some buttons when the Lexus lamp looks cleaner. The HVAC control is likely to be revamped and will be smaller than before, while the center console should also get a new redesign. The center console will remain seated as high, which is very comfortable in the current Lexus GS but hopes to see the new shifter and perhaps a new way of controlling the infotainment system. Dash will likely be shorter on this model but should have a more decisive line than before, and I would not be surprised to see the Lexus go with a true cover look up ahead.
To the back, not much to talk about, but Lexus has to follow Jones, right? The rear seats will get redesigned only the front, while the door trim panel should continue to mimic the front. There will be a bit of wood trim here, but the rear seat passengers have to get their own HVAC control, and we can see options for the rear seat infotainment system. There will be several USB charging points as well as Wi-Fi hotspots to keep the kids busy and stop them from running your phone data plan (make sure you buy a pretty good data packet for that car), all told the passengers The space could be slightly increased compared to current GS or even more when compared to ES. The cargo space should remain about the same, but there could be additional cubic feet here or there.
2019 Lexus GS 350 Engine Specifications
At this point, there are obviously more questions than answers about this car, so hiding under the hood is a complete mystery. Lexus GS 350 F currently offers two engine options – 2.0 liter, four excellent turbocharged banger for 241 horsepower and 258 pound-feet torque or a good 3.5-liter V-6 for 311 horsepower and 280 pound feet. A hybrid option of the same pair of 3.5 liters with batteries and electric motors to drive output power up to 338 horsepower. Hybrid models and those equipped with 3.5-liter naturally aspirated can be owned with AWD if desired.
With this in mind, the next-gen model should bring some improvements to the machine lineup. It is expected to see that the 3.5-liter shrinks in size a bit and gets at least one, if not two, turbochargers. The four-cylinder option should be carried, but it should be tuned to produce a bit more horsepower and less power. The only thing we know for sure is that the next-gen will see a hybrid trim level that will replace the trim level of 450h. We know this because of the yellow marker on the test mule behind the glass. It was a special flag designed for safety reasons so others at the Nurburgring knew it was a hybrid vehicle. So, we do not know if this is ES or GS, but we know that there will be hybrid options.
There are also rumors circulating about Lexus GS F Sport. Although there are outstanding issues that the Lexus GS 350 will be canceled to allow the ES to function as an executive sedan in this niche, other rumors point in the opposite direction and even show that GS F will be supported by all-new 4.0 liter, twin-turbo, V-8 that comes with more than 590 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. This is very remarkable considering the Lexus GS 350 F Sport currently uses a 5.0 liter unit, naturally aspirated to power 467 horsepower and 389 pound-feet of torque. That means the next-gen model can see an increase of 123 horsepower and torque over 100 pound-feet. The machine in question is also rumored to be used in the upcoming LC F, albeit with slightly different tones. If the rumor proves true, the GS F will be able to reach about 180 mph and should be able to run 60 mph somewhere in the low range of four seconds. Not bad. For a while we just have to wait, but the situation already sounds quite promising if GS live to see another generation. If not, then ES should see some serious improvements in power output and performance numbers.
2019 Lexus GS 350 Release Date and Price
At this point, the price is really up and the air, and very early even justify to talk about it considering we are not even sure if the name Lexus GS will last until the end of this decade.
