The oldest nameplate of the Lexus, which was launched in 1989, Lexus LS moved into the fifth generation in January 2017 at the Detroit Auto Show. Redesigned after ten years of minor changes, the Lexus LS 500 is now more sporty and stylish than ever, and the interior is equivalent to what the competition offers. But, unlike its predecessors, the V-8 is no longer under the hood, being replaced by the more powerful yet more efficient V-6 drivetrain. Offered in petrol and hybrid variants, the Lexus LS 500 is now also available on the F Sport trim. But despite having a somewhat more aggressive exterior and acting as a topping range, the 2018 Lexus LS 500 F Sport is not as special as Lexus wants us to believe.
The reason is that the Lexus LS 500 F Sport badge does not bring much to the outside of the faint exterior trim and some special features inside. Sure, there are some chassis tweaks to talk about, but the engines and transmissions are like the stock they get. The problem with this is that the 2018 Lexus LS 500 F Sport badge deserves a little extra ductility and it is vital that Lexus come up with a way to give Mercedes-Benz and BMW for their money in the performance department as well. With the new BMW M760Li and Mercedes-AMG S63 around with new equipment, the LS 500 F Sport will have difficulty making a name for itself.
At a glance the Lexus LS 500 F Sport is enough to notice that we are dealing with a slightly improved version of the standard sedan from its debut at the Detroit Auto Show. So we saw a longer and wider LS with elongated and mesmerizing looks, and a sporty attitude to the hood and the lid of the trunk that sat near the ground.
Up front, there is a large “Coil” grille flanked by star-shaped headlights and carved air intakes on the bumper. At the rear, the larger taillights extend into the rear fender and are almost X-shaped, a feature borrowed from many of the recent concept cars.
For starters, the “Spindle” grille has a different mesh pattern and finishes in black gloss instead of chrome. The same goes for the intake in the bumper, with each insert surround painted black. The side profile has a dark chrome trim insertion just above the side skirt, while the wheel carries an exclusive 20-inch alloy design. In the back, the chrome trim between the tail lights also darkens, while the inserts at the bottom of the rear fascia that surrounds the exhaust cart also become black gloss. Needless to say, the black accents make a contrast to the white paint of the presentation model, but it probably will not look good on a black sedan. On the other hand, black trim works with almost any color for silver and gray to red and blue.
All told, the 2018 Lexus LS 500 F Sport package is not at all extreme, yet gives the LS 500 a quiet, somewhat sporty look that many full-size premium sedan buyers are looking for.
2018 Lexus LS 500 F Sport Interior
The inside of the new Lexus LS 500 has also been redesigned from the ground up, and you’ll find all the new features in the F Sport model as well. There is a low dashboard with horizontal lines and the design is split between the large infotainment screen placed at the top and the A / C controls on the underside, and unlike most cars in this class, center stack and center console are separate units.
There is also a new seating design with a 28-way front seat, which is also equipped with heating, cooling and massage functions. The revised Active Noise Control provides a quieter ride and better comfort. The new 12.3-inch screen provides access to all features of the infotainment system as well as standard navigation.
Options include a rear-seat passenger that can be recorded up to 48 degrees, a Levelot 3D audio system with speakers speakers on the ceiling, and a large 24-inch screen.
In addition, the 2018 Lexus LS 500 F Sport gets some extra stuff to make the badge worth it for the extra investment. The standard front seats have been replaced by a special F Sport unit that provides enhanced support for dynamic driving. They also include a hollow grid pattern on the seating surface and bespoke aluminum trim elements. Steering wheel is also a series of F Sport, as well as instrument cluster. The latter includes a moving meter with a gliding ring for information display, a design adapted from the LFA supercar. Further highlights include aluminum pedals, perforated sliding grips and footrests, Ultrasuede inserts on seats and main seats, and an optional but exclusive Red Option interior theme.
2018 Lexus LS 500 F Sport Engine Specs
The new Lexus LS comes with some great news under the hood, with the old 4.6 liter V-8 being swept aside for a modern 3.5-liter V-6 engine. The twin-turbo unit braided 415 horsepower and 442 pound-feet, 29 horsepower horsepower and a 75-pound-foot increase from the previous V-8. Above extra ductility, Lexus also promises increased fuel savings, and although mpg figures are not yet available, it is safe to assume that the V-6 should generate more miles for the gallon. As for the off-line performance, the LS 500 takes 4.5 seconds to reach 60 mph, which is good enough for a large sedan with rear-wheel-drive. Transmisinya the fastest 10-speed automatic.
As you might have guessed, the same 3.5-liter V-6 helps F Sport move too, but the unfortunate news is that the output does not change one bit.
On the flipside, the 2018 Lexus LS 500 F Sport package comes with several chassis upgrades. There is an updated VDIM system, which integrates ABS, traction control, stability control, EPS and several other functions. VDIM controls all vehicle subsystems including braking, steering, powertrain functions, and suspension systems, which means the F Sport should be significantly more dynamic than the standard LS 500. Otherwise, Lexus has a big problem in its hands.
The 2018 Lexus LS 500 F Sport update is also available for the Lexus LS 500 hybrid model, which incorporates a 3.5-liter V-6 and an electric motor into a highly efficient hybrid drivetrain. The V-6 was rated 295 horsepower and 258 pound-feet by itself, but when the battery kicked it, the system output increased to 354 horses. Charging from 0 to 60 mph takes 5.2 seconds in rear wheel drive configuration, while AWD data is not yet available.
2018 Lexus LS 500 F Sport Price
As a range-topping model, the Lexus LS 500 F Sport 2018 is definitely the most expensive version of the LS. While the LS 500 sold from $ 75,000, the LS 500 F Sport came in at $ 81,000. For this amount, you get a rear-wheel drive model. Upgrade to AWD and the sticker jumped to $ 84,220. In addition to the usual options, F Sport can be fitter with Performance Package. Available for $ 9,700, it adds dynamic rear steering, variable gear rudder ratios, and active stabilizers. However, this package is not available for all-wheel-drive versions.
